If you’re anything like me, then I’m guessing you love to travel and part of the reason you started your own business was so you could work and play all around the world right?

My husband and I just got back from an incredible week in Tulum, Mexico (look at this gorgeous photo!) and I’m already ready to head back for more sunshine and beach time.

But there is one part of traveling that can sometimes feel a little less than relaxing, trying to run your business abroad when the wifi can be hit or miss.

And it really can feel like a gamble. I’ve stayed in small beach towns in southern France with some amazing wifi and I’ve changed hotels multiple times in Paris until I finally had to reschedule my planned call.

The idea of sitting on the beach with your laptop sounds pretty idyllic, but it doesn’t always end up being as relaxing as you’d hoped unless you do a little planning ahead of time.

So here’s my top tips to travel the world and still keep your business in motion:

1. Do your research ahead of time (or have your VA check on it)

Are there reviews for the hotel’s wifi? Will you have your own modem or will you be sharing the connection with everyone else in the hotel? I find that you typically need at least a 4 star hotel and ideally a 5 star hotel to have a great wifi connection abroad. Just because you can get a great deal on lodging doesn’t mean you should take it. It’s important for both your business and your sanity that you upgrade where you stay.

2. Purchase a wifi hotspot through your cell phone provider

I lived in a luxury RV for the last 6 months and even though there was wifi provided in our mountain RV park, there were still times when it randomly wouldn’t work. That’s why I always keep my Verizon Mifi with me. This amazing device let’s you have your own private wifi connection and is great anytime the hotel, RV park or even your home internet just isn’t up to par. Plus, there’s international options as well so you can use this amazing tool abroad.

3. Schedule coaching calls away from travels if possible

I spent about 4 months of the last year traveling, so not scheduling coaching calls during that whole time just wasn’t possible. However, I did typically avoid scheduling calls when I knew I’d be adjusting to a new time zone for a couple days or if I was only going to be out of the country for a week. My private clients receive an implementation week every month which is a great time for them to get caught up on any projects and for me to either host destination intensives or plan a work and travel trip.

If travel is a true desire for you, as it is for me, then you can absolutely make it work with your business. It just takes a little extra planning so that you can feel completely relaxed when you arrive at your destination.

I hope these tips help you work and play from your next destination and don’t forget to send photos!
