I’m taking a stand for work being more like play.

For making money being fun and easy.

I understand where the ‘you have to work hard for money’ saying came from. I grew up on my family’s ranch in eastern Colorado, which was homesteaded about 150 years ago. Mornings are early, the work is physically taxing and the weather can be hot and dry or snowy and freezing depending on the time of year.

Running a farm and ranch is hard work, I get it. However, there’s also play, quiet moments and freedom. Which seem to be missing in most of the job opportunities I see today. It’s all about pushing yourself to your limits, staying busy and never feeling like you’ve done enough.

It’s the busy work that eats up your time and gives you little to no results in return.

Somewhere in our pursuit of happiness we lost our focus on, well…being happy. We do work we don’t really care for to pay for items that don’t really excite us.

We buy houses because that’s what we’re suppose to want and take ‘secure’ jobs because that’s what we should do.

I’m not saying drop the job and walk away from it all to pursue your dreams. I mean I’ve personally taken bridge jobs along the way to support myself financially as I was building the life that I really desired. But they were never the end goal and I knew they were the necessary steps to bring me closer to my goals.

There must be a goal, a purpose, a desire to drive us and bring satisfaction to our lives. What’s yours?

And it’s completely ok if you have no idea what it is you really want to do right now. Neither did I in the beginning.

It reminds me of a quote by Diane Von Furstenberg:

This is exactly how I felt in the years after college. I knew exactly who I wanted to be: confident, doing work with purpose, having unlimited earning potential and the option to travel. But I didn’t see any options to make this happen.

And this is where I’m taking a stand for women like you and me. Women who want to have time with their loved ones and family. Who want to choose their schedules and prioritize what’s important to them. Maybe it’s having time for a hike every morning or maybe it’s the French lessons you’ve always wanted to take.

I’m taking a stand for those. For your time. For your freedom. I’m saying ‘Yes’ to your deepest desires.

Your dream job does exist, so does your dream lifestyle. The only variable in the whole equation is you. What will you decide to do with your life?

I’m sitting in an upscale Mexican restaurant here in Colorado with my husband. The walls are rolled up, sunshine and a fresh breeze are drifting in. I’m wrapping up my work day writing to you, my fellow life adventurers. This is what work should be like, rather than watching the clock slowly tick by while stuck at a desk.

If you’re wondering what a playful work day looks like, here’s how my schedule went today: I started my day with self-care, meditation and setting my intention. Then returned some emails while walking on the treadmill and took coaching calls in my home office with my amazing clients, who are simply rocking it right now (completely fills my heart up). I spent the afternoon marketing while getting a pedicure and finished up a newsletter while enjoying food and drinks on an outdoor patio.

All this while coming off of my biggest earning month ever. And I credit a large part of my earning potential to this freedom based lifestyle I lead. I insist on working smarter not harder, on taking time to truly LIVE.

I’m taking a stand for the AND in life. Business AND pleasure AND travel AND financial freedom.

And I’m asking you to join the revolution.

You don’t have to know the exact career you desire, you don’t have to know all the ‘hows’ of making it happen. You just need to know the woman you want to be and take steps towards living that life every day. The money, the work, your purpose will show up and evolve around you.
