Oh amore…
Let’s be honest, we all dream about it.
The topic of the majority of films and books. Even the action packed ones usually have some touching sequence where the guy and the girl share a kiss…after they prevent the world from being destroyed by aliens.
Love really is beautiful, it’s the key to everything, and it makes the world go round.
Having said all that, here’s what I feel are:
Nope, one of the most incredible love stories of your life is the one you have with yourself. It can be just as grand and complex as any Hollywood movie. But there’s no chance for a Hollywood divorce here, you’re stuck with ‘you’ forever, so settle in and learn to love yourself.
This is partially true, but not right on. I use to think this was the only way to have a great relationship, how could someone else really love me if I didn’t love myself first? But if I’d waited around until I felt comfortable being myself I might have never met my husband. He helped me better see who I really am, learn to truly value myself, and have a better relationship with me. (thanks babe xo)
I’m not sure I agree with this. It might sound totally bizarre but I have the same feelings for my friends, my family, my dogs, nature and my husband. It’s all love. It’s a deep feeling of connection and caring. And honestly, completely impossible to define. Love is something you know when you feel it. And it’s like a drug, we always want more. The good thing is if you have a loving relationship with yourself, you can tap in to a little love hit whenever you’d like. Now I’m not saying there’s not other emotions that go along with each of those relationships, but love is love. Completely perfect as it is.
This can be a little touchy. And let me clarify that deep down I think we’re all made of love and connected by it. But, having said that, love can fade if it’s not nurtured. I might feel deeply connected to you, but if I don’t take the time a relationship requires, it’s not going to last. And this isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes there’s relationships with friends or significant others that have run their course and it’s time to let them go. On the opposite end of the spectrum, if you want a loving relationship to last then you’ve got to be present and give the time and energy that it requires. However, this ‘work’ usually feels good. There’s very little as gratifying as building a loving relationship and the payout is a thousand times the investment.
Have you seen the movie ‘Love Actually’?? Aww I love it, go get it right now and watch it tonight. First of all I love British humor (or I suppose it’s humour across the pond). And secondly, it shows such a wide array of love. Love for family, love for someone that’s just not meant to be anything more, and the choices we make around these relationships. Love is perfect, whatever form it’s in. Don’t try to figure it out or force it, just let it be.
