I Loved waking up to the sight and sound of the ocean!
My alarm went off early this morning. It was still dark outside but I could hear the waves crashing down on the shore in front of my hotel.
I’d scheduled coaching calls for this morning a couple weeks ago while I was still in central time, somewhere in North Dakota I believe. I hadn’t thought about the fact that I might be on the pacific coast at this point, changing time zones and making for an early morning.
But I rarely reschedule calls. I want there to be a sense of consistency for my clients. I want them to know that I value their time as much as they value mine.
So I snuck out of bed (letting my husband sleep), set up my hotel room office and begin my morning chatting with women from Europe who were enjoying their afternoon on the other side of the pond.
I also had the opportunity to chat with a fantastic woman from the east coast this morning and she brought up something I hadn’t really thought about. She said part of what had drawn her to me was that I was traveling, yes, but also that I wasn’t shy about working as well.
That so often you get onto social media and you see these beautiful photos coaches and women entrepreneurs are sharing. Lounging in tropical locations, mid-day massages, jet setting and living the good life.
I believe in all of this. I love creating my schedule and choosing how I spend my time. But it’s not all mimosas and private chefs. I work. And I love my work.
I can’t tell you what a typical day in my life looks like, because there’s not really such a thing as a typical day. But I do believe strongly in structure. As an entrepreneur, you can begin to feel like you’re just floating around if you don’t have structure.
I schedule my coaching calls and clarity calls on specific days each week. I have days each week where I focus specifically on writing my newsletters and doing marketing. And I believe Thursday afternoons and Fridays are meant to be more focused on play and self-care.
That’s the schedule and focus that I’ve created for myself. Yours might be completely different, which is great, we all work in our own way. All the matters is that you stand strong in what you believe in and make it a non-negotiable.
So yes, I’ve been traveling for 6 weeks now. Living out of hotel rooms and praying for great wi-fi 🙂
I’ve crossed three time zones and tried new foods (and of course microbrews).
I’ve been invited in to have dinner at strangers homes because they loved the band my husband’s in. I’ve met hundreds of amazingly kind and giving people.
I’ve been reminded what it’s like to live a gypsy life. I’ve been surprised by just how different every state in the U.S. really is. I’ve been able to sample landscapes and even cultural differences from state to state (it’s the Anthropologist in me).
I’ve been reminded that I could make a home anywhere as long as I have my husband and my pups. And at the same time reconnecting to what’s really important to me and remembering how much I love my home in Colorado.
So what is it that lights you up?
What keeps popping up in your mind as something you’d like to try but you’re afraid everyone will think you’re crazy?
I dare you to do it.
Look at my story, I’m a little crazy too 🙂
Who was I to think that I could go from earning $10,000 last year to $10,000 or more a month this year?
Who was I to think my husband should leave his steady 9-5 job and go travel for 2 months? To believe that I would get to work with clients from around the world?
Sometimes you have to be a little crazy, a little different, to get what you really want.
So what’s my secret? How has all of this been possible for me?
I never thought:
“How will I find high-level clients?”
“How will I connect with international clients?”
“How will I be able to fit in travel, my coaching business, and the the coaching academy I’m in?”
I figure it out as I go and reach out for expert guidance and support as I need it.
The same goes for international clients. Yes, you could specifically target certain areas abroad, but I’ve found that women around the world have similar desires. And once again, if you can show the value of what you do and why you’re a great fit for a potential client, they want to work with you, no matter where they’re from.
Heading to a beautiful winery this afternoon for self-care time
And as for fitting travel, my business and my personal coaching all in. That takes us back to this morning.
Today was a Clarity Call day so I made sure I had wi-fi and scheduled my calls early. It’s also a marketing day so I’m spending time in the car connecting with everyone on social media, writing my newsletter and getting it scheduled so I can connect with all of you tomorrow morning.
And this afternoon there will be time for self-care in the form of a gorgeous Washington winery sitting in a valley overlooking the Columbia River.
There is time for it all.
For work you enjoy, community, travel, wealth and self-care. And you get to define what each of these mean to you.
